Semester reserves
At the start of each semester, semester reserves (not to be confused with course reserves) are compiled according to the lectures and seminars to be held in that semester. These reserves are kept on separate shelves in the Reading Room on the third floor and are arranged in alphabetical order according to the names of the teaching staff. (To find the shelves, turn left at the top of the stairs and go through the glass door; the reserves are on the right at the back of the room.) The books are indicated by paper tickets and may be borrowed over the weekend. The paper ticket means that the books are not checked out electronically using the user’s library card as others are but can be borrowed by completing one of the forms available at the Issue Desk.
Books can be borrowed from between 6 p.m. on Friday and 12.45 p.m. on Saturday and must be returned by 10 a.m. on the following Monday.
The semester reserves may also include files (with master copies, copies of articles, collections of assignments, etc). The contents of the semester reserves are given in the relevant lists.
The semester reserves do not include periodicals or volumes of periodicals, bibliographies, reference works or similar publications.
If you wish to set up a semester reserve please complete the following form.
Requests for semester reserves should be submitted as early as possible (during the semester before they are needed), especially if the literature required has to be purchased. (Purchasing foreign literature and some second-hand literature can sometimes take up to several months.)
The lists of requests submitted to the University Library are dealt with on a “first come, first served” basis. Please make sure that all the necessary information (including signatures) is given on the forms to ensure there are no delays in providing the media requested.
We ask you to kindly collect any readers which you may have provided from the Reading Room at the end of each semester.
